Richard R. Crowell, Founder & Managing Partner
Richard Crowell is a Managing Partner who is active in executing transactions and as a board member of Vance Street portfolio companies. Prior to founding Vance Street in August 2007, Mr. Crowell co-founded and served as President of Aurora Capital Group from 1991 through August 2005. From 1987 to 1991, Mr. Crowell was a Managing Partner of Acadia Partners (now Oak Hill), a New York-based investment fund. From 1983 to 1987, he served as a Managing Director of Corporate Finance for Drexel Burnham Lambert. Mr. Crowell holds an MBA from UCLA’s Anderson School of Management and a BA from the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Brian D. Martin, Managing Partner
Brian Martin is a Managing Partner at Vance Street responsible for originating and executing transactions, working with management teams to reach objectives, and ultimately realizing investments. He generally leads all pre-investment activities at the Firm. Prior to joining Vance Street in 2010, Mr. Martin was in the Leveraged Buyouts Group at American Capital, where he primarily focused on investing in medical components and devices, specialty manufacturing, life sciences and industrial technology companies. Mr. Martin previously served on the Board of Directors and led and managed investments in Avalon Laboratories, Value Plastics, Axygen BioScience, BarrierSafe Solutions International, ECA Medical Instruments, FutureLogic, Pacific Handy Cutter and 3SI Security Systems. Mr. Martin began his career at Robertson Stephens in the Mergers & Acquisitions and Technology Services Investment Banking groups. Mr. Martin holds a BS in Business Administration from the Haas School of Business from the University of California, Berkeley.

Michael E. Janish, Managing Partner
Mike Janish is a Managing Partner at Vance Street and is primarily responsible for evaluating investments and working with portfolio company management teams to help them reach strategic objectives. Mr. Janish is generally responsible for leading all post-investment operational activities at the Firm. Prior to joining Vance Street in 2016, Mr. Janish was the Chief Executive Officer and President of Avalon Laboratories, a private equity-owned medical device manufacturer of specialty medical tubing. Prior to Avalon Laboratories, Mr. Janish was the Chief Executive Officer and President of Precitech, a private equity-owned manufacturer of nanotechnology machine tools. Earlier in his career, Mr. Janish held various senior management and engineering roles at Ametek, Century Specialties, Textron and General Motors Corporation. Mr. Janish holds an MBA and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State University.

John P. LeRosen, Partner
John LeRosen is a Partner responsible for originating and executing transactions, working with management teams to reach objectives, and ultimately realizing investments. Prior to joining Vance Street in 2015, Mr. LeRosen was the Chief Financial Officer of Avalon Laboratories, a private equity-owned medical device manufacturer of specialty medical tubing. Prior to Avalon Laboratories, Mr. LeRosen held two separate roles at American Capital, most recently focused on investing in medical components and devices, specialty manufacturing, life sciences and industrial technology companies. Key investments in which John played a critical role include Value Plastics, Avalon Laboratories and Pasternack Enterprises. During Mr. LeRosen’s initial role at American Capital, he was responsible for leading and managing over 40 pre-investment due diligence engagements, managing the “mark-to-market” valuation process for portfolio investments and monitoring portfolio investments. Mr. LeRosen began his career at KPMG performing financial audits as a certified public accountant. Mr. LeRosen graduated summa cum laude from James Madison University with a BBA with an emphasis in Accounting.

Richard K. Roeder, Managing Partner
Richard Roeder is a Managing Partner at Vance Street who is active in assisting with the legal documentation for investment transactions, overseeing of legal matters for the portfolio companies, serving as a member of the Fund I and Fund II Investment Committees, and as a board member of Vance Street portfolio companies. Prior to the formation of Vance Street in 2007, Mr. Roeder co-founded and served as a Managing Director of Aurora Capital Group from 1991 until 2007. From 1981 to 1991, he was a partner of Paul Hastings LLP, where, from 1987 to 1991, he served as Chairman of the firm’s corporate law department. Mr. Roeder holds a JD from the University of California, Berkeley and an A.B. from Amherst College.
Mr. Roeder currently serves on the Boards of International Aerospace Coatings, A&E and Motion Dynamics.
Mr. Roeder is a Board member of the Berkeley Center on Law, Business and the Economy, a member of the Board of Directors of Cambridge in America, a Co-Chairman of the National Council of the American Enterprise Institute, serves on the Board of Directors of The Music Center of Los Angeles County and is a past President of the Board of Trustees of the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County.
Jessica L. Boltinghouse, Chief Financial Officer & Chief Compliance Officer
Jessica Boltinghouse is Vance Street’s Chief Financial Officer & Chief Compliance Officer and responsible for finance, accounting and administrative functions of Vance Street and its funds. Prior to joining Vance Street in 2017, Mrs. Boltinghouse was a Senior Fund Controller at MUFG Capital Analytics, a private equity fund administrator, where she oversaw all aspects of client reporting processes including financial statement preparation and analysis, calculations of management fees, carried interest and investment and investor-level performance metrics, capital calls and distributions. Mrs. Boltinghouse began her career at Dairy.com, a provider of market intelligence and software-as-a-service solutions to the dairy industry, in accounting operations and financial reporting.
Mrs. Boltinghouse graduated summa cum laude from Simpson College with a BA in Accounting and is licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Texas.
Nicholas A. Janneck, Principal
Nic Janneck is a Principal primarily responsible for sourcing and executing transactions and working with portfolio company management teams. Prior to joining Vance Street in 2010, Mr. Janneck was in the Investment Banking Group at J.P. Morgan, participating in the execution of a variety of transactions including mergers and acquisitions, debt and equity financings across various industries. Mr. Janneck graduated summa cum laude from the University of Southern California with a BS in Business Administration with an emphasis in Corporate Finance from the Marshall School of Business and a BS in Accounting from the Leventhal School of Accounting.

Stephen D. Sandbo, Principal
Steve Sandbo is a Principal responsible for sourcing and executing transactions and working with portfolio management teams. Prior to joining Vance Street in 2012, Mr. Sandbo was in the Investment Banking Group at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, participating in the execution of a variety of transactions including mergers and acquisitions, debt and equity financings across various industries. Before joining Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Mr. Sandbo worked in the leveraged finance and venture finance groups at ORIX Finance. Mr. Sandbo graduated from the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University, where he received his BBA in Finance.

Rustey B. Emmet, Principal – Financial Operations
Rustey Emmet is a Principal primarily responsible for managing and executing financial due diligence for new investments and portfolio company add-on acquisitions, as well as working with and mentoring portfolio company management teams in the areas of accounting and financial reporting. Prior to joining Vance Street in 2018, Mr. Emmet was a Director at CTS Capital Advisors, a boutique financial advisory and consulting firm. While at CTS, Mr. Emmet focused on leading quality of earnings analysis and served as an interim CFO for many private equity clients at their portfolio companies. Prior to CTS, Mr. Emmet was a Senior Vice President at American Capital, where he was a member of the Financial Analysis and Consulting Team. Prior to American Capital, he was the CFO of Falke, Inc, a general contractor primarily focused on interior commercial construction. Mr. Emmet began his career at Watkins Meegan (now Cohn Reznick) performing financial audits as a Certified Public Accountant. Mr. Emmet graduated from the University of Delaware with a BS in Accounting.

Grady Miller is a Vice President responsible for sourcing, due diligence, portfolio monitoring and exit opportunity analysis. Prior to joining Vance Street in 2017, Grady was an Associate at Shamrock Capital Advisors, a middle market private equity firm in Los Angeles. Prior to Shamrock, Grady was an investment professional at Hotchkis and Wiley Capital Management. Grady holds an M.B.A. from UCLA’s Anderson School of Management and a B.A. from Stanford University.

Yihao Jiang, Senior Associate
Yihao Jiang is a Senior Associate primarily responsible for due diligence, portfolio company monitoring and exit opportunity analysis. Prior to joining Vance Street in 2017, Mr. Jiang was in the Investment Banking Group of Greenhill & Co., participating in the execution of mergers and acquisitions for companies in the Industrials sectors. Mr. Jiang graduated from the University of Chicago, where he received his BA in Economics with a minor in Statistics.

Matthew N. Shemirani, Senior Associate
Matt Shemirani is a Senior Associate primarily responsible for due diligence, portfolio monitoring and exit opportunity analysis. Prior to joining Vance Street in 2018, Mr. Shemirani was in the Investment Banking Group at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, participating in the execution of a variety of transactions including mergers and acquisitions, debt and equity financings across various industries. Logan H. Schwartz, Senior Associate
Logan Schwartz is a Senior Associate primarily responsible for due diligence, portfolio company monitoring and exit opportunity analysis. Prior to joining Vance Street in 2018, Mr. Schwartz worked in the Mergers & Acquisitions group at Evercore, participating in the execution of several sell-side and buy-side transactions in the Packaging and Medical Technology industries. Mr. Schwartz graduated with High Honors from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business, where he earned a BS in Finance.

Nicole A. Dougan, Senior Associate – Accounting
Nicole Dougan is a Senior Associate responsible for finance, accounting and administrative functions of Vance Street and its funds while reporting to the Chief Financial Officer. Prior to joining Vance Street in 2020, Ms. Dougan was a Senior Accountant at Shift Media Holdings, where she was responsible for month end closing, preparing financial statements and budgeting and forecasting. Prior to Shift, Ms. Dougan was a Senior Accountant at IM Global and an Accounts Receivable Associate at Gavin de Becker & Associates, L.P.
Ms. Dougan graduated from Pepperdine University with a BA in Economics. She also received an Accounting Certificate from University of California Los Angeles.
Jenny is responsible for overseeing administrative support and corporate events at Vance Street Capital. Prior to joining Vance in 2016, she worked as an Operations Coordinator at Prudential California Realty/John Aaroe Group in Los Angeles. Jenny attended the University of Kansas.

Paul Salazar is primarily engaged by the Firm to work with portfolio company leadership teams to help them achieve strategic objectives and budgetary goals. Mr. Salazar will also support buy-side and sell-side processes. Prior to working with Vance Street in 2019, Mr. Salazar held several executive leadership roles across the aerospace, military, electronic systems, oil/gas and medical device industries focusing on highly engineered and formulated markets. Positions Mr. Salazar has held include CEO, President, Group Vice President and General Manager with diverse companies such as Precision Castparts, Crane Corporation, Invensys and Jonathan Engineered Solutions.
Mr. Salazar holds a BA in Chemistry from Whittier College, completed his MBA course work at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona and completed an Executive Leadership Program at the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business.
John Focht is primarily engaged by the Firm to work with portfolio company management teams in the areas of quality systems and regulatory assurance for businesses in the industrial, medical, aerospace and defense markets. Mr. Focht has worked closely with several Vance Street portfolio companies, including RST and Applied. Prior to working with Vance Street, Mr. Focht spent twelve years as a Senior Supplier Quality Manager for Medtronic, supporting six of their manufacturing sites in the US and Europe. Additionally, Mr. Focht supported key contract manufacturing, OEM and component/service partners of Medtronic in the US. Prior to Medtronic, Mr. Focht was the Director of Quality and Planning at Wrestling Manufacturing, where he oversaw two locations and led the transfer of operations new facilities as well as the development of a formal quality system. Earlier in his career, Mr. Focht was the Quality Manager at United Plastics Group where he supported sites in Minneapolis, El Paso, Freemont and Monterrey (MX).
Prior to Medtronic, Mr. Focht was involved in a number of industries in his quality management roles. These included automotive, industrial and defense in addition to medical. He has integrated effective quality systems in a number of diverse manufacturing environments from plating/heat treating, welding, machining, injection molding, electronic and mechanical assembly.
Mr. Focht holds an MBA from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities and a BS in mathematics.John holds a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities.
Jim Sittler is primarily engaged by the Firm to work with and mentor portfolio company management teams in the area of sales, specifically sales strategy and market development, to help them reach their sales growth and new market penetration objectives. Prior to working with Vance Street in 2016, Mr. Sittler was the Vice President of Global Sales & Marketing of Bal Seal Engineering, a privately held specialty component manufacturer serving blue-chip customers in the medical, aerospace and defense, energy and industrial markets. During his tenure at Bal Seal, Mr. Sittler helped oversee greater than 6x growth, solidifying Bal Seal as a global leader in engineered sealing, connecting and shielding solutions for industry leading OEMs. Earlier in his career, Mr. Sittler held various senior management, sales & marketing and business development roles at Danaher Corporation, Textron Inc. and Nordson Corporation.
Mr. Sittler holds an MBA from The American Graduate School of International Business (Thunderbird) and a BS from Muskingum College.
Bill Oakes is primarily engaged by the Firm to work with management teams in the area of manufacturing, specifically the development and application of models and tools to help deliver operational excellence. Mr. Oakes has extensive experience in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma and was a certified Lean Sigma Master Black Belt with Medtronic. Mr. Oakes spent over 40 years across a diverse range of precision manufacturing processes, including machining, optics, thin film coatings, lasers, and class III medical devices. Most recently, Mr. Oakes was Director of Operations with Endologix, a manufacturer of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm repair devices. Prior to Endologix, Mr. Oakes held various operations positions with Medtronic, including Senior Engineering Manager of Contract Manufacturing Supplier Development, Operations Manager of Endovascular Innovations and Engineering Manager of the Office of Continuous Improvement. Earlier in his career, Mr. Oakes held various management and engineering roles within several high-tech manufacturing industries, such as femtosecond pulsed lasers and precision thin film optical coatings.
Mr. Oakes holds a BS in Applied Physics from California State University, Sonoma.
Dana Rodriguez is primarily engaged by the Firm to work with portfolio company management teams in the areas of quality and regulatory assurance for medical end-device and component manufacturers. Ms. Rodriguez has worked closely with several Vance Street portfolio companies, including A&E and Adam Spence. Prior to working with Vance Street, Ms. Rodriguez was the Director of Quality and Regulatory Assurance at Avalon Labs, a designer and manufacturer of highly specialized catheters and medical tubing products for cardiology, pulmonology and related applications. In addition to her time at Avalon, Ms. Rodriguez spent 22 years at Edwards Lifesciences, where she was the Director of Global Regulatory Compliance. Ms. Rodriguez began her career at Shiley, Inc. where she managed clinical studies and regulatory submissions. During her career, Ms. Rodriguez has worked with numerous Notified Bodies and is well-versed in operational quality and compliance as well as regulatory submissions and registrations.
Ms. Rodriguez holds a Master of Nursing from the University of California, Los Angeles and a BS in Nursing from Oral Roberts University.
John Danhakl joined Leonard Green & Partners, L.P. (“LGP”) in 1995 and is currently a Managing Partner. Previously, John was a Managing Director in the Los Angeles office of Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette Securities Corporation (“DLJ”), which he joined in 1990, and where he worked extensively with LGP as its lead investment banker. Prior to DLJ, John was a Vice President in corporate finance at Drexel Burnham Lambert, Inc. from 1985 to 1990.
John presently serves on the Board of Directors of Advantage Solutions, Charter NEX, Genani Corporation, Insight Global, IQVIA, J. Crew, Life Time Fitness, Mister Car Wash, MultiPlan, Savers, and SRS Distribution. Eugene F. Fama, 2013 Nobel laureate in economic sciences, is widely recognized as the "father of modern finance." His research is well known in both the academic and investment communities. He is strongly identified with research on markets, particularly the efficient markets hypothesis. He focuses much of his research on the relation between risk and expected return and its implications for portfolio management. His work has transformed the way finance is viewed and conducted.
Eugene earned a bachelor's degree from Tufts University, and an MBA and PhD from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business in 1964. He joined the Chicago Booth faculty in 1963. He has been awarded a doctor of law degree from the University of Rochester; a doctor of law degree from DePaul University; a doctor honoris causa from the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium; and a doctor of science honoris causa from Tufts
Michael J. Hartnett has been the President and Chief Executive Officer of RBC Bearings, Inc. since April 1992 and Chairman of the Board since June 1993. Prior to that, Mike spent eighteen years at The Torrington Company, one of the three largest bearings manufacturers in the U.S, where he held the position of Vice President and General Manager of the Aerospace Business Unit and was, prior to that, Vice President of the Research and Development Division. Mike holds an undergraduate degree from University of New Haven, a Masters degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and a Ph.D. in Applied Mechanics from the University of Connecticut. Mike has developed numerous patents, authored more than two dozen technical papers and is well known for his contributions to the field of tribology, the study of friction.
Mike currently serves on the Engineering Advisory Board of Fairfield University, the University of New Haven and the University of California-Riverside. He is also a trustee of the Hartnett foundation, a nonprofit organization that sponsors university scholarships. Previously, he served for 16 years as a board member of Aftermarket Technology Corporation, was a member of the Board of Governors for the University of New Haven, where he also served as Chairman of the audit committee, and is the past Chairman of the Engineering Advisory Committee at the University of Connecticut.
Dale Laurance is the owner of Laurance Enterprises, LLC, a private investment and advisory services company. Dale is also the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ingram Micro, the world’s largest technology distribution company. He retired from Occidental Petroleum Corporation in 2004, where he served as its President and as a Director of its Board. Laurance Enterprises holds operating and financial interests in home building, aerospace, computer technology, private equity, security, music, golf and restaurant businesses.
Ronald D. Sugar served as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Northrop Grumman from 2003 until his retirement in 2010. During his tenure, Northrop Grumman grew to become the nation’s second largest defense contractor with 120,000 employees and $35B annual revenue. Prior to joining Northrop Grumman in 2001, Ron held senior operating, technical, and financial positions at TRW Inc. and Litton Industries.
Ron is currently a director of Apple Inc., Chevron Corporation, Amgen Inc., Air Lease Corporation and serves as senior advisor to the private investment firm Ares Management LLC, and to Bain & Co. He is a trustee of the University of Southern California, member of UCLA Anderson School of Management board of visitors, director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association, director of Alliance for College-Ready Public Schools, and national trustee of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. He is past chairman of the Aerospace Industries Association, a member of the National Academy of Engineering, and a fellow of both the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the Royal Aeronautical Society. He was appointed earlier by the President of the United States to the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee. He received BS (summa cum laude), MS, and PhD degrees in engineering from UCLA.
